Dear Friend of CORCRC, LOBBY DAY: If you were there, you know it was a big success. Scores of advocates reached out to legislators to make our presence felt and our voices heard. We spoke to legislators about three bills: urging our elected representatives to vote against HB18-1206- the so-called Live and Let Live Act, to vote in favor of reauthorization of the Colorado Civil Rights Division (CCRD) and to vote in favor of HB18-1001: Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI). While we were sharing our stories and explaining our positions, the FAMLI Act was passed out of the finance committee and continues its journey through the process. Dear Friend of CORCRC, Hundreds gathered on the steps of the Colorado capitol to make sure that the long standing Colorado Civil Rights Division and Commission continue. The Division will sunset this year and must be extended into the future. The first step in the sunset process was the subject of a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday afternoon. Many people were there to testify to the value in keeping the Commission. Earlier the Joint Budget Committee, on a tie vote, delayed funding the Commission. This should not be a partisan issue: defending civil rights is a basic right, This is the first chapter in the continuing story. 2016-17 Annual Report

2016-17 Annual Report

Our Annual Report The Colorado Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (CORCRC) Annual Report Fiscal Year: July 2016-June 2017 Changing Landscape: Nationally and in Colorado CORCRC and our supporters experienced extreme challenges, surprises, affirmations, and disappointments in the past 12 months.  Trump’s Electoral College victory has totally disrupted the political landscape of the nation and Colorado.  Our 45th President has broken many of his campaign promises: we are now facing threats to healthcare with particular cuts to women’s reproductive healthcare and Medicaid; innocent immigrants are being deported and there is, increased international military action fighting terrorism and Russian interference in our elections has possibly been enhanced by our own administration. Executive Order on Religious Freedom??

Executive Order on Religious Freedom??

Today President Trump eased restrictions on political activity by tax-exempt churches and charities.  Though these laws have never been seriously enforced, this Presidential activity opens a Pandora’s box for official church candidate endorsements and possible financial support.   The CORCRC is anxious about the President’s weakening of the First Amendment.  His concept of religious freedom clearly denies others of their religious rights.  It begs the question: When does my religious freedom trump yours?   We will continue to defend the separation of church and state: the freedom of and from religion.   Until further notice——–   Senator Betty Boyd, President, Board of Trustees Joyce Lisbin Ed.D., Executive Director Colorado Religious Coalition For Reproductive Choice

Discussion Questions for Cider House Rules

Discussion Questions for Cider House Rules

How important is the setting of this film: an orphanage, in Beautiful Maine, a stodgy building, etc? What did you think of Dr. Larch by the end of the movie: knowing that he doctored Homer’s heart health records and lied to Homer? Did you have any reaction to his addiction to ether? Larch makes the interesting statement that because women don’t legally have the right to choose, Homer Wells does not have a moral claim in choosing not to perform abortions. Do you find Larch’s argument compelling? Do you think Homer was ultimately convinced? What struck you about the presentation of fatherhood? Think of   Larch’s fatherly role towards Homer and compare him to Melody and Candy’s father? How do you think the film portrayed women: Candy and Melody? Do you think...
