Dear Friend of CORCRC, This New Year will bring a positive shift in leadership throughout the nation, in the state of Colorado and at the CORCRC.  Nora Bashir will begin her role as the CORCRC Executive Director beginning in January 2019. The Search Committee chose Nora out of a group of excellent candidates as an expression of confidence in her special skill set. Joyce Lisbin announced her intent to resign in the spring and will continue to be on staff as the Communications/Education Coordinator. She is pleased to support Nora in her leadership role. Nora has extensive experience in consultation with non-profit organizations and was Executive Director of the Chinook Fund for 7 years. Her lead in donor cultivation led to an increase of number of donors by 400%.  She has developed specific...

Dear Friend of CORCRC, The language of Roe v. Wade makes clear that states cannot ban abortion before viability – when a fetus can survive outside the womb. Most doctors agree that viability occurs at around 24 weeks. No fetus is viable at just 15 weeks. Yet, Mississippi passed a law banning abortion at 15 weeks.  This state’s effort to restrict abortion access is a prime example of the challenges reproductive rights advocates and women can expect to face in the near future.  Similar bills were passed in Iowa and in Ohio.  Fortunately, US District Judge Carlton Reeves struck down the 15-week Mississippi ban relying on this argument: “The state chose to pass a law it knew was unconstitutional to endorse a decades-long campaign, fueled by national interest groups, to ask the...
