Blog: News Update - February 22, 2018

Dear Friend of CORCRC,

There are two very important anti-choice bills that are being voted on this Thursday, 2.22. Pro-choice advocates are needed to show up in numbers to defeat HB18-1082. This bill contains the anti-choice wish list all rolled into one.

Please join us at a Press Conference to defeat HB18-1082 beginning promptly at 12:30 to 1:15 pm, Thursday, Colorado State Capitol, North Foyer.

The Committee hearing will begin at 1:30pm in Room 271 – second floor just off the elevator.

Legislation Update

HB18-1082 Women’s Right to Accurate Healthcare Information (Right Act)
This bill must be defeated. It is really the WRONG ACT and contains a long list of intrusions and barriers to a woman’s choice for an abortion. Burdensome requirements include: unnecessary ultrasounds, a mandatory waiting period, false claims about fetal pain and criminalizing doctors.
Sponsors Rep Saine/Sen Marble

Committee hearing 2.22
This is yet another attempt at incorporating personhood language into Colorado law.

HB18-1120 Prohibition of Dismemberment Abortion
Sponsors: Rep. Patrick Neville/Sen. Tim Neville (Feb 28)
The bill creates a definition of Dismemberment abortion and outlaws it. The procedure described is obsolete and rarely used.

HB 1121 No Funding Trafficking Aborted Human Body Parts
Sponsors: Rep. Tim Leonard/Sens. Tim Neville & Vicki Marble (Feb. 28).
This bill terminates state funding to a Colorado higher education institute that traffics in aborted fetuses. This bill is a solution in search of a problem that does not exist.

Book Club recommendation: Try reading Red Clocks by Leni Zumas- fiction that might be uncomfortably realistic. This novel follows four women living in the near future when abortion is recriminalized and patriarchy rules.
