Annual Faith and Freedom Awards Reception
The 2018 Faith and Freedom Award Reception was a very special evening! CORCRC honored two incredible reproductive rights champions: Karen Middleton, the Executive, NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado and Warren M. Hern, M.D.,M.P.H., Ph.D., Director Boulder Abortion Clinic. Each of these leaders have tirelessly defended and strengthened reproductive rights and reproductive health care in Colorado. Karen inspired us by emphasizing the importance of connection and embracing the diverse members of the community that support reproductive rights. These sentiments are converted to action in her work and as a lead member of the Colorado Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice Coalition. Dr. Hern’s commitment to his life’s work as an abortion provider was framed in a rare mixture of humor and historical references. His inspirational and exceptional speech is posted on our website. Here is the link: https://corcrc.org/sermon/religion-power-and-reproductive-freedom-a-checkered-history-of-conflict/ This has been a wonderful evening: terrific music by the Paradox Duet, great food and positive energy. It was so rewarding to be among friends and colleagues in the historically rich Temple Emanuel. Please enjoy these photos.

Catholic hospitals have a long history of providing essential care in our communities, particularly serving low-income and rural individuals. Healthcare providers and patients come from all faith traditions and belief systems to these facilities, seeking treatment or to provide care. But many don’t know that Catholic hospitals abide by a set of directives, written by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, that don’t mirror best medical practices. These restrictions directly impact access to reproductive services, end-of-life care, and how LGBTQI patients and their families are treated. Please join Colorado Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice and Catholics for Choice for a multimedia myth-busting workshop on religiously affiliated hospitals, Catholic teaching, and advocating for the rights of patients to access the healthcare that is right for them. Town Hall meeting. All invited. The First Amendment promises both the freedom of and freedom from religion. But as faith plays an increasingly prominent role in American politics, preserving the boundary between religion and government is more vital (and challenging) than ever. Join us for a town hall exploring the use and misuse of religious liberty in contemporary public life, featuring a discussion of the issues at stake in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission and state-level efforts to use religious freedom as a license to discriminate, especially against LGBTQI members of our community. Presenters: Laura 'Pinky' Reinsch, One Colorado Lizzy Hinkley, ACLU Colorado Katy Joseph, Catholics for Choice Light refreshments provided.
