The movie provides an important voice in the ongoing discussion about reproductive rights, responsibilities, and politics. The Cider House Rules represents abortion as a women’s health and political issue while also stressing the responsibility of men and the power of allies in abortion policy and debates.

The Colorado Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice is Calling for Prayer for the Catholic Church
On Saturday, March 5, the Denver Archdiocese, led by the Bishop, laid siege upon the Planned Parenthood at Stapleton. In theatrics recalling Joshua’s military siege upon the city of Jericho wherein his forces destroyed the city and killed all of its inhabitants, members of the church led by the Bishop will be marching around the clinic seven times. This display is consistent with the Catholic Church’s practice dictating how women should behave, denying them their own agency especially in regards to their reproductive capacity.
Rather than respond in like military manner, the Colorado Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (CoRCRC) is encouraging people to pray for the Catholic Church.
Following the prescription of a Jew by the name of Jesus to “love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you,” we are asking that clergy and lay people offer prayers this weekend for the leadership of the Catholic Church:
We pray that the Catholic Bishops might see that their efforts are not in the interests of women.
We pray that the Catholic Bishops may see that their teachings regarding contraception and closing facilities that provide contraception and health care for women will only result in more abortions – many of which will be unsafe.
We pray that the Catholic Bishops will see that empowering women to make their own choices around issues of reproduction will result in fewer abortions.
We also ask for prayers that the leaders of the Catholic Church may see that a few cells of human DNA does not hold equal value to a mature woman or even to a birthed baby.
We pray that the leaders of the Catholic Church will affirm other faiths (beliefs) and religious freedom.
Please join us as we respond to the implied violence and persecution by the Catholic Church with prayer for the Catholic Church.
