Blog: News Update – February 15, 2018

Dear Friend of CORCRC, Hundreds gathered on the steps of the Colorado capitol to make sure that the long standing Colorado Civil Rights Division and Commission continue. The Division will sunset this year and must be extended into the future. The first step in the sunset process was the subject of a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday afternoon. Many people were there to testify to the value in keeping the Commission. Earlier the Joint Budget Committee, on a tie vote, delayed funding the Commission. This should not be a partisan issue: defending civil rights is a basic right, This is the first chapter in the continuing story. Dear Friend of CORCRC, Once again our state legislation is facing a myriad of bills that challenge the fabric of our character. As Coloradoans and Americans, our identity is wrapped up in a sense of compassion and a commitment to freedom. Let’s make sure that these characteristics are reflected in our laws. Legislation Update Selected Bills to Support HB18 – 1004 Continue Child Care Tax Credit Sponsors: Reps. Coleman & Wilson/Sens. Tate & Kefalas This bill will extend Tax Credit to 2025 and benefit families HB18 – 1064 Training Program Prevention Child Sexual Abuse Training program for early childhood provider and others who interact with children. Dear Friend of CORCRC, The 20 – week abortion ban defeated in the Senate. Voters will determine who was on the ‘correct side’ of this argument. Coloradan’s need to look closely at and remember Sen.
