Dear Friend of CORCRC, The issue of personhood, “fetal rights,” is now in the Alabama courts.  An Alabama man is suing an abortion clinic on behalf of a fetus, referred to as “Baby Roe” by the Judge. The plaintiff, Ryan Magers, names the fetus as a co-plaintiff in the suit for “wrongful death” because his ex-girlfriend decided not to carry her unwanted pregnancy to term. This case could open Pandora’s box to erode Roe by possibly granting legal rights to fetuses equal to or greater than the woman carrying them. Another challenge to Roe is the possibility of mandating that the sperm donor be given the power of approving the medical procedure of abortion. Both of these potential changes in the law are frightening and must not see the light of day. Alabama Judge Allows......

Dear Friend of CORCRC, On Friday the Trump administration released new regulations that make the “Gag Rule” domestic policy. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) threatens to no longer fund Title X programs that perform or refer patients for abortion services. This means that doctors cannot do their jobs and that patients will not receive appropriate referrals let alone services that they need. Ever since women have been fighting to control their health, family planning and ‘voluntary motherhood’, we have had to defeat laws and regulations based on morality not medicine. President Nixon signed Title X into law in 1970 saying “No American woman should be denied access to family planning because of her economic condition.”  That was only a few years after the Supreme Court declared that unmarried......

Dear Friend of CORCRC, Comprehensive Sex Education and Faith Communities Sex education is a life-long process informally experienced by everyone who observes the way society talks (or doesn’t talk), acts (or doesn’t act) about matters related to sex or the expressions of affection and sexual behaviors. The biggest influence regarding our attitudes toward sex is what we observe and experience as children and mainly what we see in our immediate families. Acknowledging the enormous role of family, it is logical that children would benefit if their parents would have a solid understanding of sexuality, be comfortable as role models, and be able to provide their children with accurate information about sexual matters. Understanding sexuality helps one integrate sex into the many dimensions of a person’s life and can positively influence one’s health, emotional......

Dear Friend of CORCRC, ‘Late term abortion’; false and inflammatory language is a Distraction and Disservice. Those of us who are determined to preserve a woman’s right to privacy and an abortion must now avoid engaging in a costly game of semantics.  Unfortunately and not surprisingly, the President is exacerbating the discussion about abortion and has called on Congress “to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children.” The misuse of language and avoiding science and medical expertise only muddies the discussion with hyperbole and ‘untruths’. According to Dr. J Conti, “late term” is an invention of anti-abortion extremists to confuse, mislead and increase stigma. The appropriate language is “abortions later in pregnancy.” The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) keeps records of abortions and has reported that during 2006–2015, there has been a historic......

Dear Friend of CORCRC, The National Prayer Caucus is sponsoring Project Blitz which is a campaign to provide national support for Bible Literacy Bills, Conversion Therapy, Prayer for Judges, religious restrictions of adoption agencies, requiring “In God We Trust” to be posted in public schools and allowing for religious symbols to be part of national memorials and more!  The stated purpose of this group is: “To protect the free exercise of traditional Judeo-Christian religious values and beliefs in the public square, and to reclaim and properly define the narrative which supports such beliefs.” This effort is a threat to the separation of church and state and thus to all religions, people of faith and of no faith.  Secularism is being attacked as immoral. This self-appointed cadre is defining Christianity for this nation’s diverse......
